Keeping families together and close to the care they need by providing a home-away-from-home for families with children receiving medical care in Central Texas. Families stay close to their child’s care while accessing private suites, home-cooked meals, and family-centered resources.

Mueller House

  • Location: On Dell Children’s campus in Mueller

  • Capacity: 30 private guest rooms

  • Stay: Private rooms, daily meals, full kitchen, laundry, Wi-Fi

  • Access & Spaces: Steps from care with spaces designed for rest, routine, and connection

  • Growth: Expansion planned for 2026–2027 to add guest rooms and expanded common areas

Texas Children’s House

  • Location: Inside Texas Children’s Hospital North Austin (5th floor)

  • Capacity: 9 private guest rooms

  • Stay & Day Access: Overnight rooms plus daytime support for families in care

  • Access & Spaces: In-hospital access with a quiet, supportive space for rest and daily needs

  • Reach: Open to families across North Austin, not limited to Texas Children’s patients

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Families may qualify to stay if the patient is 21 years or younger, receiving medically necessary care in the Austin area, and the family lives more than 25 miles away. Outpatient care must require at least 3 recurring weekly appointments or provider confirmation that staying locally is necessary.


    Stays are based on medical need and referral length (no one-night stays), with extensions dependent on availability.


    All adults must pass a background check, and individuals with open CPS cases are not eligible to stay. Minor parents must be accompanied by a legal guardian.


    Limited exceptions may be made for families in unstable housing situations. RMHC does not provide transitional housing.

  • A hospital social worker or care team member must submit a referral on your behalf. Please connect with your care team to begin the process.

  • There is no required cost to stay. Families may be asked to make a suggested donation, but no family is turned away due to inability to pay.

  • Families have access to a private room, meals, kitchen spaces, laundry facilities, and common areas for rest and support. Staff will provide full details prior to arrival.

  • Yes, staff can help connect families to alternative lodging options and community resources, and may assist with additional support when available.
