There’s No Place Like Our Home
For 40 years, the mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas (RMHC CTX) has been to create, find, and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and families.
At our current 30-bedroom Ronald McDonald House in Austin, we continue to exceed our capacity to meet the growing needs of families seeking our support. With the expansion of advanced specialty care at our hospital partners and the rapid growth of the Central Texas population, many families are placed on our waitlist, eagerly waiting for a room to become available, so they can stay close to their critically ill or injured child.
A Place Like Home, our comprehensive campaign is our bold vision to serve every family who needs us. The expansion will add 51 new rooms across the Austin area. This will ensure families can stay close to their child’s hospital, regardless of where the child’s medical journey occurs. Today we are taking monumental steps forward to ensure no family is turned away in their time of greatest need.
Hope Arrives At Texas Children’s Hospital North Austin
In fall 2024, construction began on our new 9-room Ronald McDonald House, located directly inside the Texas Children's Hospital North Austin Campus. This House will serve families staying not only at Texas Children's Hospital but also at our other partner hospitals across North Austin. We anticipate that this new space will be completed by February 2026, with the first families arriving and finding their “home-away-from-home” soon.
Our new House has been designed to be a calming, open, and safe space for families with critically ill or injured children.

Starting in early 2026 we will be needing volunteers to help keep the House running smoothly and to cook home cooked meals for the families staying with us. Interested in volunteering at this location?

Transforming The Mueller Campus for Future Growth
Simultaneously, we are executing plans to transform our Mueller Campus. First, vital renovation plans are underway on our current 30-room Ronald McDonald House. This project will include a new family kitchen, four additional guest rooms, and a complete overhaul of the first-floor commercial kitchen.
Second, we are progressing with a new four-story addition that will complete our expansion. This new 4 story building will add 38 additional rooms, completing our goal of adding a total of 51 rooms. Construction is anticipated to start in the fourth quarter of 2026. The project is estimated to last 16-18 months, with the aim of opening to families in 2028.

We have a bold vision of a future where no family is placed on a waitlist because of a lack of space. That vision is now transforming into reality with the addition of 51 rooms in Austin. These rooms are more than just a place to stay; they are a supportive community that removes the burden of housing costs and logistics, allowing families to focus on the most important priority: their child's medical recovery.
